Go, Granny, Go!

FIRST THOUGHT

This is my first post, and my first thought in my blogging history:  I am not under the impression that anyone will think my blog is interesting.

RECENTLY ACQUIRED SKILLS

Toonces, the cat who adopted Mike and me, always decides to lay on my arm right after I decide to type on the laptop for any extended period of time.  I've learned to type with a cat on my arm.

EXERCISE

I pulled out my exercise dvds recently.  Today while using one I remembered my first "videos" from  back when I was in my 20's.  In fact, I remembered even further back.  There weren't any videos.  Only books.

This was my first exercise book:
Back in the day, I tried to exercise by reading books by Jane Fonda and Callan Pinkney.  Pinkney's book was called Callenetics.  I liked exercising in private.  This was the procedure: Read about the exercise, look at the picture, try to do it.  Read about the next exercise, look at the picture, try to do it.  It didn't take long before I was burning extra calories by trying to do the exercises AND not lose my place in the book.

Efficiency wasn't the key concept in those days.  In time, Fonda created a video or two:

This is probably why I have back problems :-)

I'M DANNA FULLER, AND I'M A WORKAHOLIC

I'm trying to stop being a workaholic and start getting better balance in my life.  This is week three of taking better care of myself.  I've lost ten pounds and need to lose more.  Over the past five years a combination of neck surgery, taking on a much more demanding job, then an additional job, and then a governor and some billionaires who hate teachers snowballed my dream job into a nightmare of never ending work. I promised myself that this year was going to be the one where I stopped working 70-80 hours per week.  I don't know which things to stop doing.  I care about my students.  If I didn't care about my students I might find it easier to stop doing some of the extra work I do to try my best to meet every one of their needs.  I can't think of anything funny to say about this.

MY GRANDSON

Jackson is my little love.  He is amazing.  The newest thing he does that melts my heart is when I pick him up he gives me a hug and a little pat on my shoulder.

Jackson at Gma's work.  "Hello?  What is this thing, Gma?"
TONIGHT'S DINNER

Mike is such a support while I'm trying to lose weight.  He is eating all of food I'm making to fit my Weight Watcher's points.  About ten years ago Mike saw the Ronco Showtime! Rotisserie on tv.  They were so excited about it in the commercial.  Ron Popeil kept saying "Just set it and forget it!"  I was a little skeptical at the time, but went on the hunt for the Ronco Showtime Rotisserie.  This is in the the "top five best of those presents I've given to someone else when I really get the benefit" gifts.  Legos are #1, of course.

Our Ronco chicken was finger lickin' good tonight.  Low fat and deelicious.

MY STUDENTS AND THEIR ART

My students rock.  They have been making the most amazing horse sculptures.  I have to choose among the best in order to enter them into the Michigan Art Education Association Regional Exhibition. It's going to be a tough choice. Pictures to come.  They have also been studying Greek gods, goddesses, muses, heroes, and monsters.  Soon a visit to the high school will yield the sight of gods and goddesses flying down the halls.

THINGS THAT HAPPEN INSIDE OF MY HEAD

Not long ago I was at Meijer.  I was passing through the area between the checkout lanes and the clothes.  The store music was Do You Love Me? by the Contours.  As it wafted into my consciousness, I thought "Wow, the cowbell in that song is obnoxious!  Wait.  There's no cowbell in that song!  What is that?"  I listened more closely.  It was the barcodes being read at the checkout lanes.  To the beat of Do You Love Me?

THREE WEDDINGS

It's a very exciting time in our lives.  Our son, Michael and his fiance Jo are getting married in July.  We are very happy for them and for Jackson.  Our "family" Chris Gregory and his fiance Bri and Sara Gregory and her fiance Alex are also getting married this year.  Chris will tie the knot in February.  Sara in June.  It's so cool that Michael, Chris, and Sara are all about a year apart and were small children together.  What a great time for celebration!  I remember when my "sister" Karen and I spent a lot of time with our little ones.  I wouldn't trade it for anything.

MENOPAUSE MOMENTS

I have a collection of these, but I forgot where I put them.

A SONG FOR YOU

I love real instruments.

Ciao for now.
